Step-by-Step Guide to Becoming a Notary Public in Idaho

Meet the Eligibility Requirements 

To become a notary in Idaho, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States

  • Be a resident of Idaho or a resident of a bordering state who is employed in Idaho

Complete the Application Form 

You need to complete the Notary Public Application form. This can be done online or by downloading the form.

 

Purchase a $10,000 Surety Bond 

Idaho requires notaries to purchase a $10,000 surety bond. This bond can be obtained from any insurance company or bonding company authorized to do business in Idaho.

Take the Oath of Office 

The application form must be notarized, and you need to take an oath of office. This can be done before a notary public.

Submit the Application and Fee 

Submit the completed application, surety bond, and a $30 application fee to the Idaho Secretary of State.

Await Approval

The notary seal must include:

  • Your name as it appears on your Certificate of Appointment

  • The words "Notary Public"

  • The words "State of Idaho"
