Step-by-Step Guide to Becoming a Notary Public in Alaska
Meet the Basic Requirements
To become a notary public in Alaska, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a legal resident of Alaska
- Be able to read and write English
- Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving dishonesty within the last 10 years
Obtain a Surety Bond
Obtain a $2,500 surety bond from a bonding company authorized to do business in Alaska. The bond is required to protect the public against any financial loss due to improper conduct by the notary.
Complete the Application Form
Complete the Notary Public Commission application. You can find the application form on the [Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development website](https://www.commerce.alaska.gov/web/cbpl/ProfessionalLicensing/NotariesPublic.aspx).
Submit the Application and Pay Fees
Submit your completed application, the original surety bond, and the $40 application fee to:

Complete the Oath of Office
Once your application is approved, you will receive an Oath of Office form. You must sign this form in front of a notary public and then return it to the Notary Administrator.
Receive Your Commission
After submitting the Oath of Office, you will receive your notary public commission certificate by mail.
